Authority #2, The (ARed) 3/7/07 AKA The Authority: Utopian. Vol 4 of the series? Grant Morrison, Gene Ha. Wildstorm Universe. It's possible the AR is just a throwaway line. The art is subtle: Shen mentions that Jenny has changed her shape again (She went from 5 year old to teenager in Revolution). On page 17 Jenny is drawn smaller. Shen says: "Jenny. Ken, this is Jenny, Jenny Quarx. You've changed again . . ." Jenny: "Well, I was born on the stroke of midnight along with the rest of the 21st century. Did you honestly think the spirit of the age looked like a skinny 19-year-old supermodel? Anyway, I got sick of menstruation." At the end of Brubaker's run (she looked a little old for 14) Angie wanted to know why she didn't change back to being 8; she said that nobody in their right minds wants to be 8 years old. She scarcely appeared in the Captain Atom mini, but appeared then to still be 14. Now she's a kid again. She didn't look that much younged, but was changing her appearance. "You've changed again..." is what was said, not, "You've changed ages again."

Kirra spends much of the book in the form of her sister, but also changes into animal forms (like dogs, cats and birds). She also occasionally impersonates men and women. Kirra's servant Donnal spends much of the book as a wolf or in bird form, but he also poses as a maid and mimics Kirra. Kirra has the ability not only to transform herself, but transform other people who aren't shiftlings... Bang Crunch (AP, AR) Neil Smith 2007 debut volume with 9 stories. The title story is about an 8 year old girl with Fred Hoyle syndrome, in which the aging process is speeded up and then reverses. Eepie Carpetrod won't live much beyond her 10th birthday. She ages a month a day, and by the time her mother trots her to a doctor her vocabulary has ballooned, she has grown 12 inches, has mastered longhand and long division and has read Madame Bovary. Her mum argues she's eternal, her mind and soul expanding forever like the universe, an allusion to the Big Bang theory. She knows her death will be her brain collapsing under its own weight, the Big Crunch. The pace is frenetic, to match Eepie's experience of life, and the 2nd-person narration is weirdly effective in its matter-of-factness (you know, you live, you die). The disease whisks her forward in time, then back. She may be the first character in fiction to expand and contract with the universe.

A 10-computer cluster was programmed to time-stamp and compress a daily take of 200 Gbytes. Roy insists that he'll shut down the experiment when his son is consistently constructing rudimentary sentences, well before he's even aware of the cameras, which may happen before his 3rd birthday. He has set up secure servers accessible to only a few trusted people.

Dancing With the Moon (AP UC) David Conlin McLeod. A young girl suddenly grows up during live performance, stretching her outfit but nothing rips.
p. 128:
Amy sees herself walking onto a lit stage. The heavy crimson curtains have just been pulled aside and the music is about to start.
She is dressed in a ballet pink leotard, matching tights, and white ballet slippers. Her long, strawberry blond hair is pulled back away from her face and neatly arranged in a bun tied with a pink ribbon. She wears a short chiffon dance skirt tied around her slender waist. The skirt is of translucent lace that glitters and shimmers in the bright overhead lights.
Amy is dressed for a performance she didn't know she was giving. The eyes watching her seem almost hungry. The faces lack any real color or complexion. Amy feels all eyes upon her as the lights grow brighter and hotter.
Looking down at herself, her leotard seems to tighten across her chest and the rest of her body. Her tights seem to cling to her legs and cinch her waist. Her skirt seems to shrink, revealing more of her legs and thighs.
The orchestra in the pit in front and just below her readies their instruments. The whole orchestra slowly turns to look up at Amy in her tightly fitted ballet costume and leer at her. They all seem to want her in some indescribable way.
Amy backs away, shielding her modest figure with her arms and hands over her waist and just developing chest. Her breasts had just begun to really develop, and now they seem to bulge and grow in this tight fitting leotard.
Her body seemed to change as she felt more eyes staring upon her. As she backed further away, almost against the solid wall behind her, she noticed her legs were becoming a little more muscular as were her arms. She was feeling a little taller and fuller.
Backed up against the wall, Amy could see that she wasn't a slender toothpick of a girl anymore. Her body was that of a mostly developed teenager or young adult. She grew and developed into a young woman.
The 13 year old Amy now had the fully developed body of a 20-something year old woman in a ballet costume suited for someone half her age.
The first tones of the harp and the allegro of flute and fiddle announced the opening of Camille Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre.
Amy stands clutching herself as the audience rises from their seats to approach the stage.
Amy feels the touch of cold sweat across her body as she watches the finely dressed gentlemen and ladies waltzing with their eyes seemingly glued on her blossoming figure. Amy presses her hands over her newly grown breasts and feels her heart beating and pounding wildly, almost in time to the percussive climax of the music.
The faces grow larger and more menacing as the audience pounces upon Amy, seeking the juiciest bits of flesh to suck on. Amy feels sharp things piercing her flesh as hands rub all across her body. Invasive hands rub between her legs and across her breasts. Hands grip around her neck and turn her head side-to side as teeth search for available veins and arteries. The audience stretches her out on the stage and spreads her body as wide as it can as they sink into her and dine on her blood.
Amy flings herself from her bed and screams as her bedroom door slowly opens.

You've grown up a lot since Party Of Five. What was it like being an awkward teen growing up on national television?
"I had to go through everything on that show - my first kiss, my first bra. I was 11 when it started and a late bloomer. They wrote an episode about how I'm changing in the locker room in junior high and all the other girls have bras, but I'm just in a little undershirt, so I get a wonderbra and stuff it. I had a fitting to figure out what they'd stuff my bra with - tissue, silicone, padding. For a week everyone analyzed how I looked with boobs and said maybe I should grow some one day."

"Yeah, when they finally arrived, they came with a vengeance."
Lacey can't help but laugh when strangers approach with comments about her grown-up body. "Someone asked me where I got my boobs the other day and I said 'puberty'."

Clara goes to bed after the party and the rest of the story - the battle with the rats and rescue of the Nutcracker, and the voyage to the Land of Sweets - takes place in her dreams, where she is transformed into a grown up (the role taken over by another ballerina) and ends up dancing the Sugarplum pas de deux with the Nutcracker turned Prince in the form of Drosselmeyer's nephew, on whom Clara the child has developed her first crush.

Beira did not die of old age because every spring she drank the magic waters of the Well of Youth which bubbles up in the Green Island of the West. On the first of the lengthening days of spring, Beira sat beside the Well of Youth, waiting for the dawn. If a bird drank first, or a dog barked ere she began to drink, dark old Beira would crumble into dust. As soon as Beira tasted the magic water, in silence and alone, she began to grow young again. She rose up as a beautiful girl with long hair yellow as buds of broom, cheeks red as rowan berries, and blue eyes that sparkled like the summer sea in sunshine. As each month went past, however, Beira aged quickly. She reached full womanhood in midsummer, and when autumn came on her brows wrinkled and her beauty began to fade. When the season of winter returned once again, she became an old and withered hag, and began to reign again as the aged but fierce Queen Beira, fearsome to look upon. She imprisoned Bride, the youthful goddess of spring and growth.
Once a year, when the night on which she was transformed comes round, Ness (Nessa) arises out of the river in her girl form, and sings a sad sweet song in the pale moonlight.
