Face it: We, the viewers, cannot bear to watch our little TV darlings grow up.
It's hard to see a precious child go through those awkward stages of pubescence. What's even harder is seeing these kids become sexual beings: It's Little Sister Syndrome.
A telling example of Little Sister Syndrome can be found on "Party of Five." Is it just us, or did you get the heebie-jeebies when Claudia - the little sister on "Po5" (Lacey Chabert) - is considering becoming sexually active with her boyfriend Cody?
When "Po5" first aired in 1994, Claudia was an innocent 11-year-old. Suddenly, she evolved into a teenage vixen. Tight white T-shirts, dyed red hair, henna tattoos, budding breasts -- it's just plain gross. In fact, her hormonal infusion caused a gag reflex in "Po5" fans throughout the land. Though it's true that most 16-year-olds are exploring their sexual identities, watching the televised version of your little sister dating, groping and discussing condoms is just too much to stomach.
When a child star reaches puberty in the little girl role she originated, it can be a bit tricky for her burgeoning sexuality to gain acceptance with fans. And when former child stars try to move into new adult roles, it's even more difficult. Take, for example, Alyssa Milano, who got her start playing sweet Samantha Micelli on "Who's the Boss?" in 1983. Milano was just 10 when the show began. She grew into a teen as the show progressed, and finally departed at the age of 20 when the series ended in 1993. Afterward, Milano's resume is pockmarked by racy B-grade TV or video flicks: "Confessions of a Sorority Girl," "Poison Ivy II" and "The Long Island Lolita Story," and eventually a role on "Melrose Place." It's as if she was obliged to play innuendo-soaked, over-the-top, sleazy roles in order to transition from child to sexual adult.
We never had to watch promiscuous and self-destructive Jen (played by 19-year-old Michelle Williams on "Dawson's") as a baby-faced blonde Cindy Brady-type in some past TV series. Thus, it's acceptable for characters like Jen to exist as excessively sexual entities. They were never our little sisters to begin with.
Cindy Brady is the classic victim of Little Sister Syndrome. Susan Olsen (8 years old when the show started in 1969) is the only Brady cast member who never went on to play another role. Olsen starred in the original series from 1969-1974, and in the spin-off series "The Brady Kids" in 1972, "The Brady Bunch Hour" (1977) and "The Brady Girls Get Married" (1981).
Olsen says she got out of the acting business because she was indelibly cast as "little Cindy Brady." As the youngest star of the classic American TV family - closest to the age of innocence and farthest from pubescence - Olsen was locked into the role of the quintessential Little Sister: cute, lovable and chaste. It's not easy being the "youngest one in curls" for eternity.
Animated Immunity Clause:
Film actors may initially suffer from young-kid typecasting, but as evidenced by the oddly asexual Jodie Foster, they can grow into adult roles. Viewers expect the members of their favorite series to always be there for them. They don't want them to grow or change too much.
Animated families like "The Flintstones," "The Jetsons" and "The Simpsons" have been able to maintain widespread popularity because the kids don't age. And there's never a need for the writers to produce new ones to fill that little-kid quota. TV kids such as the Olsen Twins, Brandy and even Lacey Chabert are much more street smart than those of just 10 years earlier. We're beginning to see our TV Little Sisters in more adult terms as the rules of the game change. Although "Po5's" Chabert is initially repulsive in her newfound womanhood, all it will take is a hot TV soap, asexual aspirations or a simple name-change.

Shambo-bunny
It almost Amy's Birthday, and she's psyched! she's had some strange growing pains lately, but she doesn't think much of it, Hey, even clones get aches and pains sometime, right? Well,on her birthday Amy's growing pains well, have taken on large perportians.... Now due to a long forgotten chip placed in her back in Project Cresent, Amy is trapped in the body of a 25 year-old.... Dr.Hopkins rushes her to a private room in a hospital where he can run tests to find the chip so Amy can go back to normal..... But after a while Amy's had it! She's sick of staying in bed in the same room, without any contact with her friends, so she runs away. She meets a young boy on the street and he takes her to a place called The Sanctuary, where homeless children go, but the place isn't exactly legal...
...4&1/2 stars.....I think this is a must-buy for replica fans!!!!

I've read 16 out of the 18 Replica books out, this one isn't one of my favorites, but it is still very good. On the morning of her birthday, Amy Candler, who is a clone, wakes up to find out that she looks like she is in her twenties. Amy's mother, Nancy, and Dr. Hopkins, her mom's boyfriend, tell Amy that someone slipped a gene in Amy's body that would make her look like she was in her twenties on the day of her thirteenth birthday. Nancy, not wanting Amy's secret to slip out, tells her that she will not be able to attend the party. She makes up a lie to tell Amy's friends (that Amy's appendix was taken out) so that her friends won't ask many questions. But Eric is determined to find out the truth. Meanwhile, Amy is taken to a special hospital room while she is tested and poked with needles to see how they can get rid of the gene so she can get back to normal. Amy hates the hospital, so one night, she slips out into the darkness of night and goes to a homeless shelter for kids called Sanctuary. There, Amy volunteers to help at the shelter.
I liked it, but some parts were extremely unrealistic. Like, how Amy's mother wasn't even mad that Amy ran away. Plus, who in their right mind would run away when mad scientists are looking for her?
Amy genes are formed that she can quickly turn older (about her twenties) and Nancy puts her in a hospital. Amy itsn't satisfied ( neither would I be ) because nothing is wrong with her. She looks completely fine. So Amy decides to run away. --Hay, this book is nicely done and all, but I've got to say that would Amy really run away and want to live in an old broken down house with sad people and helpless kids?.........
THE 13 YEARS OF AMY
Amy is finally 13!
lil2crazy4friends
In the 16th Replica book Amy turns 13! But when she wakes up int he morning she looks around 28! No one knows what to do. Amy eventually runs away and stays at this place run by a nice couple...its kind of like a bording house for runaways or homeless kids. It was a good story but i thought it ended too soon. We were just getting to know the runaways and other characters when it all of a sudden just ends aburptly.
The big day finally arives

Amy is SO pyshed, Her 13th Birthday is only a day away, and she's planning a real blow-out! But, On the day of her birthday, well, Amy's growing pains have gotten out of hand, and theres no way Amy can Party looking like this! After her Mother and Dr.Dave take her to a hospital to find out what exactly happened to her, Amy can't take it, I mean,She's SICK of being cooped up in this room! Amy decides to do something drastic, She's going to runaway, But can she survive life on the street?
My favorite!
I loved this book! ive read the whole series but this is my favorite. it was kinda funny how when Amy first changes no one knows whats going on. It was sad though how they did all those test and she ran away. I don't think id like it if i became 20 all in one night. but its just a storie
Weird but good.
I would give this book 3 and a half but I can't so oh well! This book is about a girl named Amy (duh!) and how on the day of her 13th birthday is taken on some changes. And these aren't little changes but big ones like lets say...TURNING INTO AN ADULT IN ONE NIGHT! And how can the laser hit a small part in her body.
